Oggie 8 2009 - A Big Thank You

On the 8 August we ran the Oggie 8 for the second time in what proved to be excellent weather. With 21 teams and 90 people taking part this years event was bigger than ever.  The run up to the event had been fraught with problems but each one was overcome to the organisers relief. More 333 members were in support this year than ever before and each checkpoint was manned for added security. With tea, soup and buns available at the half way stage morale was high throughout the event. The organisers would like to thank those who volunteered to help, especially those new faces who turned up for the first time, by erecting tents, registration before the race start or manning checkpoints throughout the day. None of it could have taken place without your help and support. Thank you.
It was good to see so many familiar faces from last years event returning to better their time. The winners this year were C'est La Vie who completed the event in 6.52 Hours!!! Smashing last years wining time of 10.30 hours. But other teams are worthy of mention, John's PJ's were awarded the "Spirit of the Event" prize for their dogged efforts in coming second, Rock Follies were awarded the Sponsorship prize for raising the most sponsorship by any team at the time of registration and who could not forget the triumphal finish of the Carneddu Corkers who after last years event vowed to return and complete the challenge. Once again a hog did not die in vain and was duly roasted and devoured by all those who survived the day long event. To date we have pledges totalling £5142.00 and the money is slowly coming in. Without a main sponsor this year our overheads were higher but even so the event has been a great success and if nothing else has help educate people as to what Mountain Rescue is all about. All in all this was a fun event and many people have already indicated their intentions to return on the 7 August 2009. Will you be amongst them?
