The 8th August 2009 will once more see the Oggie 8 Challenge take place in aid of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, a challenging walk around the Ogwen Valley area. Its aim is to open peoples eyes to the beauty of the Ogwen Valley and to raise funds for the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation. The route will take in 8 3000ft peaks within the Ogwen Valley area. The event is for groups to undertake a challenging walk in amongst magnificent scenery whilst at the same time raising much needed funds for the OVMRO. Each team will comprise of 4 people. Each individual within the group is requested to raise sponsorship in order to take part. The challenge begins with a mass start at 07.00hrs on the Saturday morning at Oggie Base, home of the OVMRO, heading up to Carnedd Llewellyn from where the course takes in the major summits of the Carnedd and Glyder mountain ranges. Parking and camping can be arranged nearby to the start location a celebratory barbecue and prize giving will be organised at Oggie base in the evening. Each participant will receive a completion certificate to commemorate the event and three additional prizes will be available to the Fastest Time Team who most encompassed the spirit of the event. There will be several escape routes available and the Ogwen Brew Shack Car Park will be used as a cut off for those falling behind. OVMRO has an objective of raising £20,000 to replace its aging comminication systems. Your participation will go some way to meeting that target.
