the oggie 8 challenge

The 9th August 2008 will see the inaugural Oggie 8 Challenge, a timed trial around the Ogwen Valley area. Its aim is to open peoples eyes to the beauty of the Ogwen Valley and to raise funds for the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation. The route will take in 8  3000ft peaks within the Ogwen Valley area. The event is for groups to undertake a challenging walk in amongst magnificent scenery whilst at the same time raising much needed funds for the OVMRO.

Each team will comprise of a minimum of 4 people up to a maximum of 6. Each individual within the group is required to raise a minimum of £25.00 and preferably more in order to take part. The event begins with a mass start at 07.00hrs on the Saturday morning at Oggie Base, home of the OVMRO, heading up to Carnedd Llewellyn from where the course takes in the major summits of the Carnedd and Glyder mountain ranges.

Parking and camping can be arranged nearby to the start location a celebratory barbecue, at a cost of £5.00 per head, and prize giving will be organised at Oggie base in the evening. Each participant will receive a completion certificate to commemorate the event and three additional prizes will be available to the

1. Fastest Time
2. Most money raised
3. Team who most encompassed the spirit of the event.

A map of the route is now available as well as entry and sponsorship forms on request. A difficult and challenging route, a distance of 16 miles with 8000ft of ascent, but taking in the best scenery North Wales has to offer. There will be several escape routes available and the Ogwen Brew Shack Car Park will be used as a cut off for those falling behind.
