Aled sings the praises of North Wales Singing star Aled Jones has signed up to be a special travel ambassador for his native North Wales. The Songs of Praise presenter is happy to sing the praises of the land where he grew up as he issues a personal invitation to visit for a short break. "North Wales has it all," says Aled: "Mountains, beaches, rolling hills, historic towns, a Celtic culture all its own and a bit of magic as well. "It's easily accessible and it’s all wrapped up in a handy sized parcel. You can see the mountains of Snowdonia from the beaches of Anglesey and there is always a warm welcome too." Short Breaks are good for you, it’s a well known fact, the best place to make a break for it is, well, just next door ... North Wales is unique. We're famous for our green bits. Like Snowdonia National Park. It's easy to see why it's one of the UK's favourites. You can walk it, scramble it, climb it, hike it. Or just stand and stare at it. Or head for our award-winning beaches. The dunes at Black Rock Sands are a Site of Special Scientific Interest. You can drive on the beach there, too. As long as you keep to the 10mph speed limit, that is. Lligwy Beach on Anglesey has a Green Coast Award. And a Rural Seaside Award. It's a great place for windsurfing. And if you're into surfing, join the celebrations at the Turbulence Kitejam. It's a festival in honour of all things surf. We've other festivals, too. International artists like Shirley Bassey, Jools Holland and Andrea Boccelli have been doing what they do best at Bryn Terfel's Faenol Festival for the past eight years. And you can see work by other great artists. Including collections from the National Portrait Gallery at Bodelwyddan Castle. And smaller ones. Like Sir Kyffin Williams' landscapes. And our landscapes aren't just beautiful. They're the reason our food is so good. Feasting on coastal saltmarsh grasses and samphire gives our lamb a dramatically different taste. It's leaner and more tender. The French just love it. We do, too. And after a good feast, we've excellent places to sleep it off. It's the same wherever you go in North Wales. A big celtic welcome from some of the world's most convivial hosts. And even though we're small, we're really easy to find. Just to the left of England. You can't miss us. |
