In 2005 the Tourism Team created a brand new Enjoy Medieval Denbighshire Website which went live in September of that year. It was planned to bring to life the Medieval Denbighshire booklet that was already in circulation and to make it more interactive and give it a new lease of life. The bilingual website designed around the booklet was broken down into 3 sections: History, Places and the Visit. It has a useful search field to enhance navigation and has useful town maps and visitor information. It can be found on www.medieval.wales.com The site hopes to tempt the visitor to explore Denbighshire by highlighting some of the listed medieval sites and buildings which survive throughout the County as well as enhancing niche markets and is supported by EU funding. All the places mentioned have their origins prior to 1600 but what you see today is the result of several centuries of use. Time spent in Denbighshire will reward you with a flavour of its fascinating history. This year we are working on enhancing the appeal of Medieval Denbighshire to an even wider audience that is 8 to 12 year olds - bringing some of the colourful characters to life such as the mean and merciless Robert of Rhuddlan, the musical bard Iolo Goch and one of our most famous hero's Owain Glyndwr. The cartoonist Jo Goigne from Belgium has been especially sourced for his historical expertise and attention to detail. This will go live in February 2007. The Medieval Booklet to accompany the site can be obtained free of charge from all Denbighshire Tourist Information Centres. |
