The time of year has come to get out and experience those autumn colours. I do find it quite hard to predict when to be in which place for autumnal photography. I recently drove through Wales from south to north and was surprised to find that the colours in the south were far more advanced. Also, different tree types come to their best at different times. I must admit that I find the beech woodlands to be my favourites (don’t tell the Woodland Trust, who appear to be at war with beech woodland at the moment!), spreading a carpet of leaves over the forest floor. A visit to places like Bodnant Gardens can be a great way to see a variety of trees and plants displaying a rainbow of colours. Some hillsides are very colourful at the moment – I have never seen so many berries as this year. But I particularly love to wander a stream through the woods, keeping alert for little areas that catch my eye. When your eyes are open to the possibilities, it’s amazing how much there is to photograph. |
