For those of you who order from outside Europe, the website has been giving you a choice of Airmail or Surface Mail for a few months now. Unfortunately it is easy to miss seeing the place that you choose these options, which is lower down on the page that you input your name and address. Restrictions in the software do not allow us to place it elsewhere. If you do not choose, then the website chooses Surface Mail as a default for you. This can take around 6 weeks to North America and 12 weeks to Australia and New Zealand.

We are taking a family holiday from 29th March to 13th April, so if any of you place an order on the website during that period, you will have a little wait. Sorry, but as we are not a multi-national company, many things grind to a halt when we go away!

It is becoming more and more difficult to continue being a photographer using film. So many publishers will now only accept digital images. I am now waiting for what seems the right camera model at a reasonable price – e.g. a good full frame DSLR at less than £1000 – before I make that step to digital. I do want to continue trying to get the best pictures in the first place rather than become one of those spending ages manipulating on the computer later.

Photography Monthly magazine had 11 pages of my pictures and text in their March issue. Described as ‘the 25 top photo locations in North Wales’, I was not allowed to choose anywhere more than 20 minutes walk from a road. That probably excluded 20 of my real top 25!

Although I am not yet digital for my main photography, I have been using a digital compact for some holiday and social snapping. If any of you are thinking of a digital compact then I highly recommend the Fuji F30. I am very impressed with the quality of image and the low light capabilities of this camera. It can be bought new for around £160.

The the items below will seem quite personal, but so many of you are friends, relatives, or take a personal interest in us. If not, skip this section – it’s boring!

We had a very enjoyable day on Snowdon just before Christmas. Jack, our youngest, decided to be very slow that day, which was very thoughtful of him as it resulted in us being on the summits at sunset. It was a beautiful day with an inversion (a sea of clouds beneath us) – mountains such as Cader Idris could just be seen above the clouds. There was a little snow and a wonderful sunset. The descent of the Miners Track proved interesting in the dark as each rock became coated in an invisible layer of ice.

Abi has a busy few months ahead. Apart from the Welsh 3000’s sponsored event we mentioned elsewhere, she is also taking her GCSE’s, heading to Morocco to climb Mount Toubkal (the highest mountain in North Africa at around 13,800 feet), and will be baptized in the warm sea of Criccieth in early September.

Abi has also just started up a Christian Union at school. It has been a brave thing to do, because she has been the target of a certain amount of flak from some of her peer group for doing this. However, the first few weeks have passed and the meetings have been successful and well supported.

Jonathan is still sports mad. He and various friends meet in the village park regularly to play cricket – even in the middle of winter. Jonathan has also recently been playing in goal for the county under 13’s.

Jack finishes at our local village school here in Llanbedr and goes to secondary school in Tywyn after the summer. He has a keen interest in birds and wildlife, and is aided by our friend Brian MacDonald, who takes the local kids out on his ‘Wildlife Wales’ activities.
